Learning to drive in Paradise.

Paradise students pick one of two meeting points when they book: Starbucks on the Skyway or Paradise High School. The lesson heads down the Skyway, where long grades teach speed control, braking and following distance that valley roads do not, then uses Chico for intersections, lane changes, downtown traffic and Highway 99. It ends back at the meeting point the student started from.

The drive test

Paradise has no DMV field office, so most families book the drive test in Chico or Oroville on dmv.ca.gov. Tell us which office you booked. With the DMV exam package, lesson 2 is planned around your appointment, so the student warms up in the car they practiced in. How DMV drive test prep works →

A typical 2-hour lesson for Paradise students

  1. Start at Starbucks on the Skyway or Paradise High School (your pick when you book)
  2. Down the Skyway: grades, braking and speed control
  3. Quiet Chico streets near Bidwell Park: controls, smooth stops and turns
  4. The Esplanade and downtown Chico: lane choice, signals, pedestrians and cyclists
  5. Highway 99 once the instructor sees the student is ready
  6. Back up to your meeting point, with written notes on what to practice next

The instructor adjusts the route to the student's level. Teens: 6-hour behind-the-wheel training. Adults: adult driving lessons.

★★★★★
“Professional, patient, and incredibly helpful. I was super nervous about learning to drive, but Stallion made everything feel so smooth. The instructor was calm and explained things in a way that made sense. The car was spotless and modern — nothing like the old driving schools.”

Where do Paradise lessons start?

At Starbucks on the Skyway or at Paradise High School. You pick one when you book and see the exact spot before you confirm.

What if weather on the ridge is unsafe?

We contact you to move the lesson. Safety comes first.

Why do Paradise lessons drive into Chico?

The Skyway on the way down is the best place to practice grades and braking, and Chico adds what the ridge doesn’t have in one lesson: busy intersections, multi-lane roads and Highway 99.
